It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Werner Koby, who left this world on June 20, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on August 25, 1950, in the picturesque town of Hirschau, Germany, Werner's journey through life was marked by a profound love for family, a dedication to his craft, and an unwavering zest for life. Werner was the beloved son of Nicholas and Anna Stadler Koby, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion. Growing up in Hirschau, Werner's early life was enriched by the beauty of his surroundings, a love for the outdoors that would accompany him throughout his life. He later moved to New York, where he graduated from Ramapo High School in 1970. Though he briefly pursued studies in architecture, his true calling lay in the skilled trades. Werner's professional life was defined by his dedication to the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 373, where he served as both a Business Agent and Business Manager. His commitment to his work and his colleagues was evident in his membership in the United Association of Journeymen & Apprentices of Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States. Werner's influence extended beyond his professional life as he was admired and respected by all who had the privilege of working alongside him. In 2013, Werner married the love of his life, Clare Parra, on October 5th in Mountainville, NY. Their union was a testament to enduring love and companionship, built on a foundation of laughter and unwavering support. Together, they made their home in Myrtle Beach, SC, where they created a life filled with joy and shared passions. Werner was a man of diverse interests; his love for the outdoors was evident in his avid golfing, boating adventures, and his talent for gardening. He found solace and expression in taxidermy, cooking, and motorized boat building. A gifted artist, Werner took great pride in creating beautiful hand-painted works, a testament to his creativity and the joy he found in sharing his talents with others. His quick wit and warm smile were hallmarks of a generous spirit, and his kindness touched countless lives. Werner's ability to make everyone feel welcome was a rare gift, and he will be remembered for his loving nature and the joy he brought to those around him. Werner is survived by his devoted wife, Clare, of 13 years, his beloved daughter, Jennifer Koby, and his dear siblings: Lora Reimann and husband Michael, Tamara Westphal and husband Keith, and brother Herman Koby and wife Ethel. He leaves behind four treasured grandchildren who were the light of his life. Though predeceased by his beloved son, Eric Koby, Werner's legacy continues through the love and memories shared by his family. Werner's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sean Pennetti, Neuro-Oncologist, and the dedicated staff at MUSC Health, Medical University of South Carolina, for their compassionate care during his final days. In honor of Werner's life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation (https://glioblastomafoundation.org), an organization close to Werner's heart. A private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Werner's life, as he wished for a peaceful farewell surrounded by those he held dear. Werner Koby will be deeply missed but eternally remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His spirit will forever echo in the laughter he brought to so many and the love he generously gave.
