Wendell Spease

December 12, 1929 — April 25, 2026

Wendell Spease, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on December 12, 1929, in the heart of Wisconsin, Wendell was the beloved son of the late David and Elizabeth (Benoy) Spease. His life was a tapestry woven with love, duty, and the deep bonds of family and friendship. Growing up in Wisconsin, Wendell was surrounded by the warmth of many brothers and sisters, a lively household that instilled in him the values of resilience and camaraderie. He carried these values with him throughout his life, touching the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Wendell answered the call to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army, dedicating his efforts until 1952. His commitment to service was a testament to his character, and he was proud to be a part of something larger than himself. After his military service, Wendell embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver. The open road was his second home, and each journey was a new story waiting to be told. His dedication to his work was matched only by his dedication to his family, who were always his greatest source of pride and joy. Wendell was predeceased by his loving wife, Darlene Wollenberg, with whom he shared many beautiful years. Though she left this world before him, their love story remains a timeless testament to the power of love and companionship. He was also preceded in death by his parents, David and Elizabeth, and many of his siblings, who welcomed him home with open arms. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in the hearts of his surviving family: his devoted son, Jerry Stevenson; his caring daughter, Mary Dowell; and his steadfast son, David Spease. Wendell was also blessed with the joy of four grandchildren, who brought him endless smiles and laughter. Though he did not have the chance to welcome great-grandchildren into the world, his family continues to grow, nurturing the seeds of love and compassion he planted. Wendell's life will be honored with a final resting place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO, where he will be laid to rest with the dignity and respect befitting a man of his character. The family finds solace in knowing that he will be surrounded by fellow servicemen and women, a brotherhood that transcends time. In this time of remembrance, the family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support and love extended to them. Wendell Spease was a gentle giant, a man whose kindness knew no bounds, and whose memory will be cherished forever. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire all who knew him to live with the same kindness and integrity that he exemplified every day of his life.
