It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Wendell Paul Hutchcraft on October 13, 2026. Born on September 23, 1962, in the sunny state of California, Wendell lived a life rich with experiences, laughter, and love, deeply touching the lives of those around him. Wendell was the cherished son of the late William and Doris Hutchcraft, and he carried their memory with him throughout his days. He faced the profound loss of his beloved son, Samuel Hutchcraft, with strength and resilience, finding solace in the bonds of his surviving children: Randell P. Hutchcraft Boyde, Charlene Hutchcraft, Michael Summers, and Mathew Summers, who will forever hold his legacy in their hearts. A true family man, Wendell was also a dear brother to his devoted siblings: Cynthia (George) Thornton, Rowena (Terry) Dawdy, Kristol (Robert) Turner, Timothy (Tina) Hutchcraft, Amanda Miller, Jessica Miller, and Justin Miller, each of whom he shared a unique and loving bond with. Wendell's journey was marked by diverse experiences. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1981, where he discovered his passion for drumming, a talent he shared with joy at church and other gatherings. Though his time in the Navy was brief due to a medical discharge, it was a testament to his adventurous spirit and willingness to serve. His career path was as varied as his interests. After attending Flamingo Beauty College, Wendell worked at Mobile Chemical in Jacksonville, Illinois, and later joined a construction crew in Manassas, Virginia. His culinary skills were evident in his roles as a prep cook and waiter in various restaurants across the states, culminating in his retirement back in Illinois to be closer to family. Wendell was a man of many passions. He found peace in nature, enjoying fishing, camping, and road trips. He was a master of assembling intricate models, a lover of board games, and a man who celebrated life with the mantra, "it's always 5 o'clock somewhere." His love for music and his family was evident in his every action, and his humor and kindness made him a joy to be around. Though he experienced the ups and downs of life, including two marriages and divorces, Wendell's love for his family remained unwavering. His legacy is carried forward by those who knew him as a kind, loving, and fun individual. Wendell's family wishes to honor his memory with a private funeral ceremony, reflecting the intimacy and warmth he shared with those closest to him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Wendell's name to a charity of your choice, celebrating his generous spirit and love for community. Rest in peace, Wendell, a wonderful son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. Your light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved you.
