Wayne Joseph Hodell

October 12, 1945 — March 6, 2026

With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Wayne Joseph Hodell, who departed this world on March 6, 2026. Wayne was born on October 12, 1945, in the serene town of Murray, Utah, to the late Joseph Hyrum and Donna (Bateman) Hodell. He peacefully transitioned at home, surrounded by loved ones on both sides of the veil, after a courageous battle with illness. Wayne's life was a testament to love, adventure, and quiet strength. In 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Martha (Van Rij) Hodell, embarking on a journey of 60 beautiful years together. Their marriage was a beacon of devotion, nurturing two cherished children, Troy and Stacie. Wayne and Martha's wanderlust led them across the globe, from the tropical allure of Guam and Hawaii to the scenic landscapes of Canada and the continental United States. Their hearts, however, were irrevocably captured by the breathtaking beauty of Alaska, a place they revisited often, reveling in the majesty of the Northern Lights and the splendor of its wildlife and landscapes. An avid adventurer, Wayne possessed what he affectionately called "Gypsy feet." His love for the open road and waters was evident in his ownership of four boats and three motorhomes, each facilitating countless family adventures and creating memories that will forever be cherished. A proud alumnus of Murray High School, class of 1963, Wayne's commitment to service began the day after graduation when he joined the National Guard. He served honorably for six years, instilling in him a lifelong dedication to community and country. Professionally, Wayne's career spanned 30 years with a company that would eventually become Nokia, where he meticulously installed central phone and cellular systems. Wayne was a humble man with a gentle spirit, known for his remarkable ability to build, repair, and maintain just about anything. He was the "go-to" person for countless friends and family members, offering insightful advice and assistance without seeking recognition. His quiet demeanor belied a wisdom that was deeply respected by those who were fortunate enough to know him. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wayne and Martha were sealed to their family for time and all eternity, a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to his loved ones. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his children, Troy (Amy Yeates) Hodell and Stacie (Hodell) Day; his sisters, Gail (Hodell) Harbrecht and Kathy (Hodell) Orton; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, each a cherished part of his living legacy. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Donna Hodell, brother-in-law DeWayne Harbrecht, brother-in-law Ronald Orton, and son-in-law Michael Day. The family invites you to celebrate Wayne's life with visitations on Friday evening from 6:00-9:00 pm and Saturday morning from 9:30-10:45 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with interment at Murray City Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
