May 10, 1937 — April 11, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound admiration, we announce the passing of Wayne J. Nelson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Wayne peacefully departed this world on April 11, 2026, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Born on May 10, 1937, in the charming town of Pullman, Washington, Wayne was the cherished son of Hjalmar and Minnie Nelson. From a young age, Wayne displayed a zest for life and a keen curiosity about the world around him. He attended Pullman Public School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with learning and exploration. In 1955, Wayne married the love of his life, Esther, whom he met when they were just 12 and 13 years old. Their love story is one for the ages, marked by a deep and abiding devotion that spanned over seven decades. In October 2025, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring commitment and affection for one another. Wayne proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard for six years, an experience that instilled in him a strong sense of duty and camaraderie. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career selling agricultural chemicals for FMC and Helena, earning the respect and friendship of many in the field. Wayne was a man of many interests. He found joy in fishing, camping, RVing, and traveling, always eager for the next adventure. His love for the open skies led him to obtain his pilot's license in 1972, and he was an active member of the Porterville Pilots Association, where he shared his passion for aviation with fellow enthusiasts. A devout Methodist and a dedicated member of the Elks for 65 years, Wayne was deeply embedded in his community. He was also involved with the Porterville Jaycees, contributing his time and talents to causes close to his heart. Those who knew Wayne will fondly remember his infectious humor and his favorite greeting: "How are you? I'm still on this side of the green grass. Sure glad you got to see me." It was this warmth and wit that endeared him to so many and earned him the reputation of being "a really good guy." Wayne's legacy lives on through his loving wife, Esther, his devoted daughters, Laurie and Cathy, and his caring sons, Michael and David. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, the cherished great-grandfather of fourteen great-grandchildren, and the adoring great-great-grandfather of four great-great-grandchildren. Wayne's family was his greatest joy, and his love for them was boundless. In keeping with his family's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Wayne's remarkable life. Though he has journeyed to a new horizon, Wayne's spirit will forever be a guiding light to those he leaves behind. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, let us celebrate the love, laughter, and kindness he shared with the world. Wayne J. Nelson will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
