In Loving Memory

Wayne Cooper
April 20, 1943 — April 8, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wayne Cooper on April 8, 2026, at the age of 82. Surrounded by his loving family at the hospital, Wayne's departure was a gentle reflection of the life he led—full of love, warmth, and compassion. Born on April 20, 1943, in the picturesque town of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Wayne was the cherished son of Ron and Mildred Cooper, who predeceased him.
A man of remarkable character and kindness, Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Ron Cooper Jr. and Gary Cooper. Despite these losses, Wayne's spirit remained unbroken, sustained by the love of his surviving family members: his devoted children Ryan (married to Erin) and Shayna (married to Chris), and his four beloved grandchildren—Findlay, Bennett, Leo, and Lily—who filled his life with joy and purpose.
Wayne's career was a testament to his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. For over 40 years, he was a well-respected grocer and the esteemed president of Coopers Foods. His passion for his work and community never waned, even as he continued to explore various other business ventures well past the traditional age of retirement. Wayne's commitment to excellence and integrity made him a pillar of the community, admired by colleagues and customers alike.
Outside of his professional life, Wayne was an avid sports fan. His heart raced with every pitch by the Blue Jays, every drive by the Vancouver Canucks, and every swing in major golf tournaments and boxing matches. His enthusiasm for sports was matched only by his deep love of music, which provided him with endless hours of joy and reflection.
Wayne's personal qualities left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Known for his warm, welcoming smile and quick wit, Wayne had a unique gift for making everyone feel valued and at home. His kindness and generosity were boundless, extending far beyond his immediate family to touch the lives of countless friends and acquaintances.
In honor of Wayne's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Royal Columbia Hospital for the exceptional care they provided during Wayne's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation, a cause dear to Wayne's heart.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find solace in the legacy of love and kindness that Wayne leaves behind—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Wayne. You will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
