It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we announce the passing of Wayne Brian Ross, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world on May 19, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on May 8, 1961, in the quaint town of Marengo, Iowa, Wayne graced us with his presence and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Wayne was the cherished son of Richard and Joyce Ross, both of whom preceded him in death, yet he carried their love and values throughout his life. Growing up in a loving family, Wayne was surrounded by the warmth and companionship of his siblings, Charlotte Neil and her husband Terry, David Ross, and Madonna Smithburg and her husband Dave. Together, they shared countless memories and supported one another through life's many journeys.
A gentle and generous spirit, Wayne was known for his unwavering kindness and infectious sense of humor. His heart was as vast as the Iowa skies, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Wayne's dedication to his friends and family was unparalleled, earning him the admiration and gratitude of many.
Wayne found joy in the simplest pleasures of life, often seen in the company of his beloved dog, Morgan. An ardent animal lover, he had a special bond with animals, and his gentle nature resonated deeply with them. His close buddies in Des Moines were a source of great joy and camaraderie, filling his days with laughter and shared adventures.
Wayne's nieces and nephew, Nancy Neil, Stephanie Schafer, and Mike Smithburg, along with his great-nephews and nieces, held a special place in his heart. He cherished each moment spent with them, imparting wisdom, laughter, and love, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories.
In his final days, Wayne showed immense courage and strength, facing multiple health issues with grace and dignity. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the VA Hospital in Des Moines and Marshalltown, whose care and kindness provided comfort to Wayne and his loved ones during difficult times.
As we gather to remember Wayne, let us celebrate a life filled with love, generosity, and unwavering friendship. Though he may no longer walk alongside us, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service to honor Wayne's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can come together to share stories, laughter, and tears, celebrating a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Wayne's memory to a local animal shelter, reflecting his love and devotion to animals.
Wayne Brian Ross, a man of great heart and soul, will be dearly missed yet fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to have known him.
