Born on June 4, 1943, in the close-knit community of Silverhill, Alabama, Wayne was the cherished son of Crumb and Frankie Bates. A bright and determined student, he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Wayne's commitment to service led him to the Navy, where he proudly served his country with honor and distinction. Wayne was a man of quiet strength and unwavering work ethic. He spent his life working tirelessly, setting an example of diligence and perseverance for his family. His legacy of hard work is something that will be fondly remembered and deeply respected by all who knew him. Wayne was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lashon Bates, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage. Together, they created a warm and loving home, nurturing a family that would become his greatest joy. He was also preceded in death by his children, Billy Grooms, Tonya Grooms, and Frank Mccall. The loss of his wife and children weighed heavily on him, yet he found solace in the cherished memories they created together. Wayne is survived by his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
