Wanda Marie Mauppin, the heart of our family, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on November 21, 1938, in Gainesville, Texas, Wanda lived a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication to her family.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Franklin "Tommy" Mauppin, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage lasting over six decades. Together they built a life filled with joy and adventure. She was also predeceased by her parents, Walter Fletcher and Vinnie Alma Smith, her daughter, Marie Howington, and her brother, Jim Fletcher.
A hardworking woman, Wanda spent many years working as a butcher at Winn-Dixie grocery store, where she was known for her skill and friendly personality. After retiring, she and Tommy opened Tommy’s Corner, a convenience store that became a local gathering spot for the neighborhood. Following their time as business owners, Wanda and Tommy enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and creating cherished memories together visiting family all over the United States.
Wanda was a woman of many interests. She found joy and solace in reading, solving crossword puzzles, and watching movies. Her love for these activities was only surpassed by the love she had for her family.
She is survived by her loving son, Lawrence Mauppin, and his wife, Cindy. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Amber (and Trey), Thurman, and Keith, and her great-grandson, Elan. Wanda is also survived by her brothers, Wayne, Billy (and Trish), Joe (and Bonita), and Troy (and Nelly), her sisters, Everal (and Jigger) and Gale (and Randy), and a host of family including sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends who will forever remember her sweet smile and generous heart.
Wanda's memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
