Wanda Coleen Bissell

February 23, 1953 — May 20, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wanda Coleen Bissell, a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Wanda left this world peacefully on May 20, 2026, at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Wanda was born on February 23, 1953, in the warm embrace of Lee Hall, Virginia, to her beloved parents, Dennis Ashby Bissell and Edna Pauline Bissell. From a young age, Wanda displayed a spirited determination and a compassionate heart, qualities that would define her throughout her life. A proud veteran, Wanda served her country honorably in the United States Navy. Her time in the military instilled in her a sense of discipline and a commitment to duty that she carried into her civilian life. Following her service, Wanda embarked on a long and successful career with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), where she worked diligently until her well-deserved retirement. Her colleagues remember her not only for her professionalism and competence but also for her unwavering dedication to the well-being and safety of others. Wanda's family was the cornerstone of her life. Though preceded in death by her dear siblings Yohlanda Jones, Genevieve Glass, Russell Simmons, Jesse Simmons, Peggy Nicely, Edith Phillips, and Dannis Jane Bissell, Wanda found solace and joy in the company of her surviving siblings: her brother Wayne Simmons of Robbinsville, New Jersey, and her sister Shelia Joyce Ryan of Mount Ida, Arkansas. Wanda cherished the special bonds she shared with her siblings, and she was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure her warmth, wisdom, and humor. Wanda's life was a testament to the power of kindness. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued and loved, and her presence brightened every room she entered. Her laughter was infectious, her generosity boundless, and her spirit indomitable. As we bid farewell to Wanda, we find comfort in the memories of her love and her unwavering strength. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched and in the stories that will be shared for generations to come. A celebration of Wanda's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and share in the joy she brought to our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Wanda's name to a charity of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving. Rest in peace, dear Wanda. Your journey on this earth may have ended, but your spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
