Walter Singletary, a beloved father, brother, and community pillar, peacefully departed this world at his home on October 6, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on September 12, 1944, in Florence County, Walter spent his life embodying the values of faith, family, and hard work. Walter was the cherished son of the late Jimmy Brown and Allie Mae Singletary. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his loving wife, Rosa Nell Hanna Singletary, his son, Eric Singletary, six brothers—Samuel, David, Jacob, Joseph, Jimmy Jr., and Harry Lee Brown—and three sisters—Thelma Johnson, Doris Anderson, and Magalene McCutcheon. He is survived by his devoted children: Richard Bostick of Florence, SC; Kenneth Singletary of Florence, SC; Rushawn Hanna of Lake City, SC; and Dianne, wife of Antonio Porter, of Hemingway, SC. Walter also lovingly raised three children as his own: Darrell Hanna of Savannah, GA, Darien Hanna and wife Nakita of Anderson, SC, and Sheena Ceasar of Lake City, SC. His legacy continues through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Danny McCutcheon of Pensacola, FL, and three sisters-in-law: Hazel Singletary of Turbeville, SC, Alberta Singletary, and Kim Singletary, both of Lake City, SC. A proud graduate of the Florence County Public School System, Walter went on to establish Singletary Construction, where he worked diligently as the owner and operator for over 20 years until his retirement. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched by his dedication to his faith; Walter was ordained as a deacon at White Chapel Freewill Holiness Church and served faithfully at Word of God Outreach Ministry and New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. His greatest passion was serving the Lord, a mission he fulfilled with unwavering devotion. Walter's culinary skills were legendary among friends and family, particularly his mastery of BBQ Hog and Pileau, which he prepared with love and expertise. His warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. A celebration of Walter's life will be held on October 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, located at 214 South Ron McNair Blvd. in Lake City, SC.
