Born to George Perry Reed and Edith Alice Schrader, Walter was part of a loving family that included his siblings, Howard, Bill, Bonnie, and Donna, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Reed Ervin, and his second wife, Serena Ann Reed. Walter's life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and dedication. In his early years, Walter demonstrated a profound sense of duty and patriotism by serving in the National Guard in Wyoming from April 1955 to January 1957, followed by distinguished service in the Navy until January 1961. These years of service were a testament to his commitment to his country and his fellow citizens. Walter's life was beautifully enriched when he found love in Sandy, with whom he celebrated 28 wonderful years of marriage. They wed on January 10, 1997, and together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and shared dreams in Canton, Texas. Walter was a devoted father to his sons, Steve and Greg, and a loving stepfather to Jason Damron. His family extended to daughters-in-law Lori and Dorie, five grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy. Known for his ever-present smile and the warmth of his laughter, Walter had an uncanny ability to lift the spirits of those around him. His kindness and joy touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on his family, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Walter's honor on September 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Canton, Texas. The service will be a reflection of his life and the joy he brought to so many. In gratitude for the love and support shown during this time, Walter's family expresses their deepest thanks.
