Our beloved Walter Page, was born on September 19, 1943 to Inez Page McGinnis, in the close-knit community of Linden, Alabama, and he departed this world on April 8, 2026, at the age of 82. Walter was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose radiant smile and generous spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. Walter accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Cade Chapel Church in Linden, Alabama. Later, Walter was a devoted member of the Hunter Memorial AME Church, where he found solace and strength in fellowship. Even as his health began to decline, his faith remained a cornerstone of his life. A proud 1952 graduate of George P. Austin High School in Linden, Alabama. Walter went on to join and serve in the United Sates Army. After relocating to the Washington DC area, Walter embarked on a distinguished career at the Smithsonian Institute, where he served as a K-9 police officer for over 30 years. His dedication to his work was a testament to his character—steadfast, reliable, and compassionate. Walter’s colleagues often spoke of his unwavering commitment and the deep bond he shared with his canine partners. Walter met and married the love of his life, his loving wife, May L. Page, with whom he shared many beautiful years of marriage. Together, they crafted a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories. He was an avid dog lover. He enjoyed watching wrestling and old western movies and tv shows. However, he found immense joy in family gatherings, cookouts, and the occasional visit to the Maryland Live Casino. Walter's love for his family was unparalleled, and his home was always open, offering warmth and welcome to all. Walter was preceded in death by his mother Inez Page McGinnis, his wife May L. Page and his siblings, Larry, Edward, and Otis McGinnis, Julia Reed, and Reverend Eula Smith, all of whom he held close to his heart. Walter is survived by his devoted niece and caregiver, Rachael Smith, who provided unwavering support and love in his final years. He also leaves behind his brother, Willie McGinnis of Birmingham, Alabama, his Aunt Elive Nathan of Linden, Alabama, bonus sisters Rosie McGinnis and Lucille McGinnis, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to carry his legacy of kindness forward. Walter was a beautiful soul who enriched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished. His life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the enduring bonds of family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be dearly missed by all.
