In Loving Memory of Walter Leonard James We celebrate the life of Walter Leonard James, who passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on April 12, 1955, in Mobile, Alabama, Walter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence filled the lives of all who knew him with kindness and warmth. Walter was the cherished son of Sadie and Lester James, both of whom predeceased him, along with his dear brother, Kennard James. He grew up in a close-knit family, where he learned the values of love, integrity, and compassion that remained central to his character throughout his life. Walter shared 48 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Shirley Henderson. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter in Mobile, Alabama. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: Demetrius Henderson, Terry Green, and Annie Henderson. Walter's legacy continues through his five beloved grandchildren, Keria Green, Jonathan Green, Kymberley Henderson, Kenyatta Henderson, and Kadeirda Henderson, as well as his five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. An active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Walter was a man of faith who found great joy in serving his community. His deep commitment to the church was evident in his unwavering dedication and the kindness he extended to all those around him. Walter's warm smile and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered by his church family and the many friends he made throughout his life. We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Walter's life at a service on August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be held at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, located at 409 Lexington Avenue, Mobile, Alabama 36603. It will be a time to honor the remarkable life he lived and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Walter's memory to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to his generous spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others. Walter Leonard James will be deeply missed, yet his legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
