It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Lee Rumph on June 16, 2026, at his cherished home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 25, 1960, in the close-knit community of Georgetown, Georgia, Walter’s journey was marked by unwavering faith, boundless love, and an infectious joy that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Walter was the beloved son of Marshall and Callie Rumph, who preceded him in death, along with his dear brothers, James Rumph and Robert Kinsey. He grew up in a home filled with warmth, love, and the teachings of faith, all of which he carried with him throughout his life. As a devoted member of Promise Land Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastors James and Ella Johnson, Walter’s faith was the cornerstone of his existence.
A master mechanic by trade, Walter’s skilled hands could repair just about anything, but it was his joyful spirit that truly set him apart. His work was not just a vocation but a testament to his dedication and pride in helping others. Those who sought his expertise came to admire him not only for his craftsmanship but for the laughter and happiness he spread so effortlessly. Walter’s sense of humor and infectious personality brought comfort to his family, friends, and everyone who crossed his path.
Walter leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter to be cherished by his devoted and beloved wife, Gussie Gray Rumph; his loving daughter, Tadasia Clark; and his stepchildren, Angela Gray, Sheila Gray, and Vincent Gray, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: sisters Annie Ellington, Julia Jones, and Catherine Hines; brothers Willie Ed Rumph of Georgetown, Georgia, and Tommy Davis of Cincinnati, Ohio. His sisters-in-law, Jennifer Wilson and Carolyn Skelton of Anderson, South Carolina, and brothers-in-law, Marion Skelton and Calvin Skelton of South Carolina, will forever hold him in their hearts. Walter’s memory will be cherished by his three beloved aunts, Lucille Kinsey of Georgetown, Georgia, Anne Rumph of Meridian, Mississippi, and Essie White of Miami, Florida, along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
In honoring Walter’s life, a service will be held on July 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Lewis Mortuary, located at 1248 US-82, Georgetown, GA 39854. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in Walter’s memory.
A special message from Walter’s loving family captures the essence of his life and legacy:
A Mechanic’s Rest
God saw your hands were tired,
From a lifetime of hard work and care,
He saw the tools you laid to rest,
And the kindness you loved to share.
You fixed what others thought was broken,
With a laugh that could brighten the day,
Now the Master Mechanic has called you,
To a peaceful, perfect place to stay.
Your joy and your beautiful spirit,
Will remain in the hearts you have blessed,
Lay down your burdens, sweet Walter,
You have finally earned your rest.
May Walter Lee Rumph’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire and bring joy to all who knew and loved him.
