Walter F. Montano

September 15, 1942 — October 17, 2026

Walter F. Montano, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on October 17, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on September 15, 1942, in San Ysidro, New Mexico, Walter was the cherished son of Fernando and Virginia Montano. Walter shared a beautiful and enduring love with his wife, Filomena Montano, with whom he celebrated over 62 years of marriage. Their journey together began on April 11, 1964, and was filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family. Walter was a devoted father to his daughters, Jane and David, Rene and Lorraine, and Trevor, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria and Elefio, Bobby and Maryann, and Ralph and Patsy and sister in law Flora Montano. Walter's love extended beyond his immediate family to his numerous nephews and nieces, whom he adored and cherished. Walter was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Theresa Montano, as well as his parents, Fernando and Virginia Montano, his brothers, Servero and Pete Montano, and his sister, Alice Trujillo. Though they are no longer with us, their spirits undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms. In 1971, Walter began a long and dedicated career with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. He was known for his integrity, hard work, and passion for the natural beauty of his home state. Beyond his professional life, Walter was an active member of the Catholic Church, contributing his time and energy to the small northern towns he lived in throughout his life. Walter was a man of simple pleasures. He found joy in fishing, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and find peace. His mechanical curiosity led him to spend countless hours working on his own cars and tinkering with anything that had a motor. Walter's smile and laughter were his trademarks, traits that endeared him to everyone he met and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. The Montano family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice in Walter's memory. This gesture would honor his spirit of giving and caring for others. Walter F. Montano's legacy is one of love, generosity, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Walter F. Montano welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
