It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Wali R Lee, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend. Wali departed this world on May 23, 2026, at the age of 60, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and kindness. Born on June 28, 1965, in Newark, New Jersey, Wali was the beloved son of the late Betty Louise and Walter Lee, and the devoted grandson of Jessie B Lee, who predeceased him. Wali was a man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, deeply committed to his family and community. He was a beacon of love, compassion, and wisdom, whose warmth touched the lives of all who knew him. His laughter was infectious, his spirit indomitable, and his heart as vast as the skies. He is survived by his loving siblings: his brothers, James (Crystal) Lee, Rodney Lee, and Harun Shahid, and his sister, Juanisha Lee. Wali held a special bond with his favorite aunt, Marie Lee, whose presence brought him great joy. His legacy continues through his devoted nephews, Samaud, Hakeem, Taseem, and Jaquavious Lee, and his beloved nieces, Tihonna, Janae, Aziah, and La-Antrea Lee, Rakiah Pettis, and Zshakirah McQueen. Wali's nurturing spirit was reflected in the lives of his three godchildren, TyQuan, Manisa, and Samira Lipsey, and his stepdaughter, Alicia Jones, whom he embraced with open arms and a loving heart. His extended family, including countless sister-cousins, brother-cousins, and cherished friends, will forever hold him in their hearts. Wali was predeceased by his treasured grandmother, Jessie B Lee, his parents Betty Louise and Walter Lee, and his aunts Willie Bell Lipsey (Rudolph, Sr), Johnnie Pearl Thomas, and Sulena Taylor, whose memories he held dear throughout his life. A celebration of Wali's life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Restoration Christian Center, located at 17-23 E Kinney Street. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who brought so much beauty into our lives. It is a time to share memories, find solace in one another, and honor the extraordinary life Wali led.
