Virginia McDonald, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on September 16, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on March 14, 1930, in North Hampton County, Virginia, she was predeceased by her parents Thomas Felton and Sarah Pitts Felton as well as her beloved son-in-law John Anderson.
Virginia was a beacon of kindness, calm, and generosity, traits that were evident throughout her life. She was known for her patience and her unwavering belief in the goodness of people. Always one to offer gentle encouragement, she skillfully imparted advice with a loving touch.
In 1952, Virginia married the love of her life, Clifton McDonald, affectionately known as Mack. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and faith. Their union was blessed with four children: Gail (John), Greta, Clifton (Patricia), and Rodney (Yavonne), and Virginia took great pride in nurturing their family. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Zaavon (Jenelle), John (Christina), Pamela, Ryan (Shenelle), and Robin, and eight great-grandchildren. Virginia also lovingly raised her cousin's daughter, Phyllis Wright Gibson, and her foster child, Sheila Love. Her dear friend, Donna Johnson, considered Virginia a mother figure, a testament to the profound impact she had on those around her.
An alumna of North Hampton County High School and Virginia State College, Virginia graduated with a degree in art. She shared her passion for creativity by working as a high school art teacher before transitioning to the role of director at two daycare centers. Her love for children was evident in every aspect of her career and personal life.
As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Virginia's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was baptized and quickly began sharing her beliefs with everyone she met. She served as a regular pioneer from 1987 up until her death and aided many people to come to serve Jehovah. Her compassion and dedication to her faith inspired many around her.
Virginia had a zest for life that included a love for travel, decorating, and gardening. She was a lifelong learner, always eager to acquire new skills like bricklaying and concrete work. Her home was a sanctuary of comfort and love, reflecting her dedication to ensuring her family felt cherished and happy.
Virginia is also fondly remembered by her caregiver, Patience Dogbey, her physician, Dr. Azra Hussaini, nurses Lindsey, Sheila, and Kim, aide Cambria, and the compassionate teams at Amedisys in home care and Gilchrist hospice, to whom the family extends special thanks.
