Virginia Sue Fowler

Virginia Sue Fowler, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, peacefully passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on February 18, 1941, in Algood, Tennessee, Sue was the daughter of the late Charlie and Frona Thompson. Her life's journey was marked by love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. Sue's early years were spent in Algood, with her siblings, Terry, Harold, and Jack. She graduated from Algood High School and furthered her education at Tennessee Tech. On March 18, 1961, Sue married the love of her life, Jere Fowler, at The Methodist Church in Algood. After they moved to Atlanta, Georgia, they then moved to Greensboro, North Carolina where they raised their family, and provided a loving foster home to children in need. They were members of Friendly Baptist Church for many years where Sue also worked at the church nursery with many of her good friends. An avid antique collector, Sue had a passion for finding beauty and history in every piece she acquired. She decorated for every holiday and season, but especially during Christmas, her favorite time of year, adorning the rooms with enough lights to warm the entire home. Sue was often found on her porch, reading every book she could get her hands on, adding to the long list of those she had already read. Sue also liked to color, complete word searches and find the perfect home for a newly discovered antiquity. Predeceased by her husband Jere, daughter Sherri, and brothers Terry and Harold, Sue's legacy of love continues through her surviving family: her son Steve Fowler and his wife Diane; her brother Jack Thompson and his wife Donna; her grandchildren Cori McPherson and her husband Brad, Jacob Fowler, Hannah Fowler, Abby Fowler, Sarah Fowler, and Rachel Fox; her great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family extends their gratitude to the caregivers of Amedisys for their compassionate care, and to the friends and caregivers Sue came to know at Parkview. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Amedisys Hospice Garner Center, or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, honoring Sue's generous spirit. As we celebrate the life of Virginia Sue Fowler, we remember her for her warmth and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Friday, September 4th at 11:00 am.
