Virginia Lea Breeding

July 21, 1939 — March 20, 2026

July 21, 1939 – March 20, 2026 Virginia Lea Breeding, 86, of Mountain View, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 21, 1939, in the heart of Mountain View, Virginia was the beloved daughter of Earnest M. (Grudy) Brewer and Faye Smith Brewer, who predeceased her. Virginia lived a life full of love, adventure, and service, leaving a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Col. Joel W. Breeding, with whom she shared an incredible journey of love and companionship. Their marriage began on August 9, 1959, and was marked by mutual respect and unwavering support as they navigated life's many adventures together. Virginia was the cherished mother of Brooke Breeding Tweddell and Brad Breeding (Stephanie), and the proud grandmother of Samantha Tweddell Sullivan (Pierce), Brittany Breeding Kvetko (Tyler), and Diamond Breeding. Her legacy of love continues through her great-grandchildren, Harris and Logan Sullivan, who will carry forward the rich legacy she leaves behind. A graduate of Mountain View High School in 1956, Virginia pursued higher education with vigor and passion, majoring in English at Arkansas State College, now known as Arkansas State University. During her college years, she was an active member and officer in the Baptist Student Union, the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, the Alpha Psi Omega honorary fraternity, and the Featherpens. Her grace and elegance were recognized when she became one of six semi-finalists in the Miss Arkansas State College contest of 1959. Virginia's adventurous spirit shone brightly throughout her life, particularly as a military officer's wife. Her first teaching position took her to Saigon, Vietnam, where she was one of 13 dedicated teachers instructing the children of military families. Her commitment extended beyond the classroom, as she also taught English to Vietnamese adults at the Vietnam Cultural Institute. Her career continued as she followed her husband Joel's military postings across Texas, Georgia, Colorado, and Nicaragua, where she developed an English program for foreign-born dependents of service personnel. For more than 30 years, Virginia passionately imparted her love for English and literature to middle school students, with 26 years dedicated to the Mountain View community. She was also an active member of the First Baptist Church and Foothills Baptist Church, where she shared her faith and kindness with her community. Virginia's life was marked by her adventurous spirit and impressive achievements. In her youth, she was a rifle sharpshooter, an archer, and a proud member of the "Crossbowettes." Notably, in 1956, she was appointed a Colonel in the National Guard of Arkansas and of the United States by Governor Orval Faubus, a title she humorously noted she earned before her husband Joel received his military rank. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held on March 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Foothills Baptist Church, located at 19935 Hwy. 5 in Mountain View, AR. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Elite Hospice, Superior Senior Care, and Julie Gosser for their compassionate care and dedication to Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Virginia's memory by embracing the joy and kindness she brought to every life she touched. Her legacy of love, service, and adventure will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
