Virginia Dansby Tompkins, affectionately known as Ginny, was born on June 16, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama, to her loving parents, Virginia and Frank Dansby. Ginny embraced life with an adventurous spirit and an open heart, traits that she carried with her until her peaceful passing on August 26, 2026.
Ginny's life was a tapestry of love, service, and joy. She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Springville, Alabama, where she actively participated in community service and dedicated many years as the church treasurer. Her commitment to her faith and community was a guiding light in her life, influencing everyone around her.
On August 8, 2017, Ginny married the love of her life, Stanley Tompkins. Together, they shared a beautiful journey filled with laughter, travel, and companionship. Alongside her beloved husband, Ginny is survived by her sons, David Tompkins and Cary Tompkins, her daughter-in-love Cindy Tompkins, her brother Frank Dansby, and her sister-in-love Martha Dansby. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A true adventurer at heart, Ginny loved to travel, often embarking on trips with Stan, Frank, and Martha. Her friendships spanned decades, and she held her girlfriends close, organizing trips and gatherings that were filled with laughter and camaraderie. Ginny also had a passion for playing cards and games, always eager for a friendly competition with her friends.
Her culinary skills were legendary, and she delighted in cooking and baking for others, ensuring that no one ever left her home without a delicious meal and a sweet dessert. Ginny's kitchen was a haven of warmth and hospitality, reflecting her generous spirit and love for others.
A service to celebrate Ginny's life will be held on August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Jefferson Memorial in Trussville, Alabama. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ginny's memory to the Alzheimer's Research Association, reflecting her dedication to making the world a better place.
