It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Virgil Lee Montgomery on February 20, 2026, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo, Indiana. Born on March 16, 1956, in the charming town of Connersville, Indiana, Virgil lived a vibrant and fulfilled life that touched many hearts.
Virgil was the beloved son of Robert and Lenora Montgomery, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his devoted partner of over 20 years, Tabitha, and his cherished stepdaughter, Isael. He leaves behind his loving sister Martha Barker, her husband Reid Barker, and their son, his dear nephew, Logan Barker. He is also survived by his half-sisters Betty and Nancy.
A proud graduate of Westfield Washington High School in 1974, Virgil went on to earn a Designer Draftsman degree from IV Tech in Indianapolis. His career was marked by innovation and dedication, most notably at Jenn-Air, where he developed a patent for Dual Mode Downdraft Gas Ranges in 1994. Later, he lent his talents to Moon Fabricating as a Supervisor until his retirement due to illness.
Virgil was a man of many passions. He found peace and joy in nature, spending countless weekends camping and boating with Tabitha. He was a sports enthusiast, finding joy in every game, and a talented artist whose drawings brought beauty to those around him. His love for music was evident in his piano playing, a skill he nurtured with great care, although he often joked about his singing abilities. Golf was another passion, and he was an ardent fan of Jordan Spieth.
Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, Virgil had a knack for lighting up any room with laughter. His playful sarcasm and jovial nature endeared him to all who knew him. He had a unique ability to bring smiles and create lasting memories with his jovial spirit.
To honor Virgil's memory, his family expresses heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined in celebrating his life. In the words of his family: "Brother, wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. Love you, Virg."
Virgil Lee Montgomery, a remarkable man who lived life with love, laughter, and a generous heart, will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us all.
