Violet (Vi) M Lucas

Violet "Vi" M. Lucas, a beloved member of the Watsonville community, passed away peacefully at her home on September 5, 2026, due to End Stage Renal Disease. Born on December 29, 1942, in Watsonville, California, Vi was a beacon of warmth and compassion whose legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her. Vi was the cherished daughter of the late Pete and Mabel Lucas. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, who instilled in her the values of kindness and community service that she carried throughout her life. Vi is survived by a close-knit circle of friends who became her chosen family, a testament to the deep connections she formed wherever she went. A proud graduate of Watsonville High School, Vi furthered her education at Cabrillo College before finding her true passion in the beauty industry. She graduated from beauty school and went on to own and operate Vi's Beauty Shop in Watsonville for over four decades. Her salon was more than just a place for a haircut; it was a haven of laughter, friendship, and support where clients often became friends. Vi was dedicated to serving her community in various capacities. She was a stalwart member of several local commissions, including the Watsonville Parks and Recreation Commission, the Watsonville Personnel Commission, and the Pajaro Valley Cemetery Board, where she served diligently until her passing. Her commitment to improving her community was further exemplified by her role as co-founder and treasurer of the Recreation Advocates, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of local youth. Known for her quick smile and caring nature, Vi had an innate ability to make those around her feel valued and cherished. Her infectious positivity and unwavering compassion left a lasting impression on everyone she met. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Watsonville Community Hospital, caregivers, and hospice staff for their dedicated and loving care during Vi's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation, a charity close to Vi's heart, located in Staten Island, NY. As we remember Violet "Vi" M. Lucas, we celebrate a life well-lived and a spirit that will remain with us always. Her legacy of love, kindness, and community service will continue to inspire future generations.
