Viola Nicholson, a spirited soul whose life was a symphony of love, devotion, and joy, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, leaving a legacy of warmth and kindness. Born on August 4, 1944, in Los Angeles to Herman and Mary Martinez, Viola's life was a beautiful testament to the power of love and resilience. Viola's journey was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family and community. She was married to her beloved husband, David Nicholson, for 52 wonderful years until his passing. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising four sons—David, Don, Darren, and Derek—who carry forward her legacy. Viola's joy multiplied with the arrival of her eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, each a cherished addition to her life. Education was a lifelong pursuit for Viola. Though the birth of her first child paused her college journey, her determination led her to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1992 at CSU Dominguez Hills. Her career path was as diverse as her interests. She initially devoted herself to raising her first two children before stepping into the world of work as a waitress. Viola later found her true calling as a paraeducator at Parras Middle School, where her nurturing spirit touched many young lives. A woman of deep faith, Viola was an active parishioner at St. James Catholic Church, where she also dedicated her time to teaching CCD classes. Her commitment to her community extended to her involvement in her sons' athletic pursuits, participating actively in Little League boards and booster clubs. Viola's passion for baseball, especially her beloved Dodgers, was infectious, and her love for the game was only surpassed by her love for her family and friends. Viola's home was a haven for her extended family and the friends of her sons, all of whom considered her a second mom. Her fun-loving and caring nature made her the life of every party, where she and David could often be found dancing joyfully. Viola's heart was as vast as her generosity, always ready to offer a meal or a place to stay to anyone in need. A service to celebrate Viola's extraordinary life will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, located at 415 Vincent St. Redondo Beach, CA 90277. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Viola's memory to a charity of your choice. Viola Nicholson was a beacon of love, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished memories. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, living on in the hearts of her family and friends.
