Victor Monge Becerra

Victor Monge Becerra, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on July 28, 1951, in El Salto, Durango, Mexico, Victor was the beloved son of Pedro and Paula Becerra. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and resilience that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. At the tender age of 12, Victor embarked on a journey to the United States, driven by the desire to support his family. Despite the challenges he faced, including leaving school to work as a Bracero, his determination and work ethic shone brightly. Victor found employment with Dole Foods in Ventura, California, and later transitioned to Pic Sweet and United Foods, where he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to providing for his loved ones. In 1971, Victor met the love of his life, Guadalupe (Lupe), at a fair in Ventura County, California. The couple married on December 5, 1971, in Oxnard, California, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Raquel, Irene, Victor Jr., Alex, and JC, who were the center of their world. Victor's journey was not only marked by his career but also by his deep commitment to community and family. In the 1970s and early 1980s, he traveled across the United States as a member of the United Farm Workers Union, advocating for the rights of fellow workers. His passion for soccer led him to serve as the president of the Willamette Soccer League from 1992 to 1998, where he inspired young athletes with his leadership and enthusiasm. In 1992, Victor and Lupe opened their hearts and home to foster children, becoming a pillar of support and love for over 100 children throughout the years. This selfless act of kindness exemplified the caring nature that Victor was known for—a man who would give you the shirt off his back and a beer, just not his last one. Victor was a man of many passions, including his love for building Lowriders and installing hydraulics on classic Chevys alongside his son, Victor Jr. His loyalty to his favorite sports teams—the Raiders, Lakers, Dodgers, and Cruz Azul Futbol Club—was matched only by his dedication to his family and community. A stern yet loving man, Victor had a unique way of motivating those around him by pushing their buttons and smiling from the inside. He was a dedicated husband, loving father, provider, mentor, and coach who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His generosity extended to offering jobs, meals, and guidance, though he held a firm stance against idleness and folly. Victor is survived by his devoted wife, Lupe; his children Raquel and Michael Huggins, Irene and Lester Manuma, Victor Jr. and Elizabeth Becerra, Alex Becerra, and JC Becerra; his granddaughter Amaya Rae Huggins; and grandsons Victor III and Gabriel Becerra. He is preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Sydney Marrisa Manuma. A service to celebrate Victor's remarkable life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Restlawn Funeral Home, located at 201 Oak Grove Rd NW, Salem, OR 97304. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
