It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Vi Lobato, who left this world on September 26th, 2026, in the comforting embrace of her cherished daughter, Regina, at their family home in Antonito, Colorado. Vi was born on June 11, 1928, in Lobatos, Colorado, to Alcario Jiron and Belinda Galvez Jiron, and led a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community.
Vi spent her formative years in Antonito, Colorado, graduating from Antonito High School in 1946. She furthered her education at a business school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, setting the stage for a fulfilling career. Her professional journey began in Antonito at the perlite facility, and after relocating to Denver, she dedicated many years to the State of Colorado Department of Public Welfare. Her commitment to public service culminated in a 30-year tenure at the Conejos County Department of Social Services. After retirement, she found joy and purpose working as a teacher's assistant at South Conejos Elementary School, touching the lives of many young students.
On a personal note, Vi was a vibrant presence in the community, especially as a devoted member of the Madres Cristianas for 38 years. Her love for life was infectious, marked by her quick wit and remarkable memory. Vi was a gifted storyteller, often sharing tales of family history that connected generations.
Her passions extended beyond her work and community involvement. Vi was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan, reveling in every touchdown and field goal. She cherished time spent with family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents, Alcario and Belinda, her beloved husband, Paul Lobato, with whom she shared 26 wonderful years, and her brother, Alcario (Al) Jiron and sister-in-law, Josina Jiron. She is survived by her loving daughter, Regina Dillon; sister, Carminia Carlsen of California; nieces, Belinda Romero (Fred) of Nevada, Nephew, Robert Carlsen (Sarah)of California; Nieces, Inez Leibman (Chris); Nephews, Albert Jiron (Sharon), and Daniel Jiron (Bridgette) all of New Mexico, along with great-nephews and nieces who will continue to carry forward her legacy of love and resilience.
A service to honor Vi's life will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos, Colorado on Friday, October 2, 2026, with a rosary at the church at 10:30, Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 followed by internment at the Lobatos Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the wonderful caregivers, Nicole Vigil, Chantelle Casanova, and Akela Mestas, whose kindness and dedication provided Vi with comfort and care in her final months.
Vi's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
