It is with heavy hearts yet cherished memories that we announce the passing of Veteran Torace B. Johnson, a remarkable man of wisdom, courage, and boundless love, who will be laid to rest on July 14, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on August 1, 1956, in Washington, DC, Torace's life was a tapestry woven with threads of dedication, friendship, and service to others and to the NAVY.
Torace was the beloved son of the late Marie Francis Dupree, whose nurturing spirit he carried forth in his own life. He is survived by his siblings, Catherine Dupree, Daryck Dupree, Ernest Dupree, and India D. Winkler.
A proud graduate of Spingarn High School in the District of Columbia, Torace's thirst for knowledge led him to Howard University, where he immersed himself in the study of Aeronautical Science. Following his academic pursuits, he embarked on a noble journey with the Military-Navy, serving for twelve commendable years. His career path continued within the federal government, where he held various positions, including the esteemed role of a Park Ranger. Torace was a lifelong learner with a keen understanding of History, Aeronautical Science, and African American Studies. His leadership extended to serving as Tenant Association President for Ward 8, and he was a proud member of the American Legion.
A man of many passions, Torace found joy in photography, capturing the beauty of his travels and fishing trips, often accompanied by his childhood friend and best friend, Mr. Andre Cheeks, and his family. He relished the tranquility of Myrtle Beach, SC, in the company of his dear friend and colleague, Dr. S. Wright, sharing stories of his life and naval career. His enthusiasm for the Washington Redskins, now the Washington Commanders, was unwavering, and he delighted in sports, mystery shows, and cycling through parks.
Torace's intellectual curiosity and vast knowledge were complemented by his love for the ocean and the solace it brought him. While he was a private individual, his friendships were deeply valued and nurtured through outdoor adventures, music, and meaningful conversations. A man of faith, he drew strength from reading his Bible daily, embodying its teachings in his interactions with others.

The 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
for ever.
