It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Vertia McDonald, who departed this world peacefully at her home on June 5, 2026. Vertia was born on November 24, 1949, in Hillister, Texas, to the late Junies and Verma Maloy. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Vertia’s journey began in the small, close-knit community of Hillister, Texas, where she was lovingly raised by her parents, Junies and Verma Maloy. She was raised in a loving family whose values of kindness, faith, and generosity remained with her throughout her life. She shared a special bond with her brother, Willie Maloy, who sadly passed away just days after Vertia. Though they have both departed this life, the love they shared and the memories they created together will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her beloved sister, Anna Wilks; her sister-in-law, Annie Maloy; her beloved New Hope Missionary Baptist Church family; her cherished friends, George Swan and Willie and Eva Bowden, who lovingly called her “Ms. Mac D”; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. A dedicated student, Vertia graduated from Warren High School in 1969, and she pursued higher education at Southwestern Business University, earning her diploma with pride. Her commitment to learning and excellence was a testament to her character and determination. For many years, Vertia shared a life of profound love and companionship with her devoted husband, Leroy McDonald, who predeceased her. Their marriage was an extraordinary testament to enduring love and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories that will forever be held close by those who had the privilege of knowing them. Vertia was an active and cherished member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she found spiritual fulfillment, fellowship, and a second family. Her faith served as a guiding light throughout her life, and she was known for her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others. As a devoted member of the Mission, she generously contributed food and other resources to support the church's outreach efforts, always eager to help those in need. She also serves faithfully as a Mother of the Church, offering wisdom, encouragement, and a nurturing presence to her church family. Through her service, generosity, and steadfast faith, she touched countless lives and left a lasting impact on her community. A service to celebrate Vertia's remarkable life will be held on July 11, 2026, at New Hope MBC, located at 7936 Woodlyn Rd, Houston, TX 77028. The viewing will start at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service. Family, friends, and all who were touched by her are warmly invited to join us as we honor her memory and celebrate the legacy of love she leaves behind. In the hearts of those who loved her, Vertia McDonald will always be remembered as a woman of grace, wisdom, and enduring love. Her kindness, strength, and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many and will continue to be cherished by all who knew her.
