It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Vertia McDonald, who departed this world peacefully at her home on June 5, 2026. Vertia was born on November 24, 1949, in Hillister, Texas, to the late Junies and Verma Maloy. She was a bright light in our lives, and her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Vertia's journey began in the small, close-knit community of Hillister, where she was nurtured by her loving parents, Junies and Verma Maloy. She was blessed with a joyful childhood, surrounded by the love of her family, including her brother Willie Maloy, who recently preceded her in passing, and her sister, Anna Wilks, who survives her. A dedicated student, Vertia graduated from Warren High School in 1969, and she pursued higher education at Southwestern Business University, earning her degree with pride. Her commitment to learning and excellence was a testament to her character and determination. For many years, Vertia shared a life of profound love and companionship with her devoted husband, Leroy McDonald, who predeceased her. Their marriage was an extraordinary testament to enduring love and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories that will forever be held close by those who had the privilege of knowing them. Vertia was an active and cherished member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she found spiritual fulfillment and a second family. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she was a beacon of kindness and compassion within her church community. Her generous spirit and nurturing nature touched the lives of many, including her sister, Anna Wilks, and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her. She was also beloved by her church family at New Hope MBC, who will remember her fondly. A service to celebrate Vertia's remarkable life will be held on July 11, 2026, at New Hope MBC, located at 7936 Woodlyn Rd, Houston, TX 77028. Family, friends, and all who were touched by her grace are invited to honor her memory and celebrate the legacy of love she leaves behind. In the hearts of those who loved her, Vertia McDonald will always be remembered as a woman of grace, wisdom, and enduring love. Her kindness, strength, and compassionate spirit touched the lives of many and will continue to be cherished by all who knew her. As we say goodbye, we hold close the treasured memories she created and the lasting impact she made on her family, friends, and community.
