Veronica "Ronnie" Wiggins, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, after a valiant battle with a terminal illness. Born on March 14, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, Veronica was the cherished daughter of O.W. Wiggins and Ruth Dale Abney. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sisters, Loretta and baby Caroline.
Ronnie's life was a testament to love, strength, and generosity. She graduated from John C. Fremont High School in 1963 and began her career as an assembly technician. However, her calling to care for others led her to earn her LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1972. Ronnie devoted 15 years to nursing, bringing her warmth and compassion to the patients at Queen of Angels and White Memorial hospitals. Her commitment to service extended beyond nursing, as she later dedicated herself as an Intermediate Clerk at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Headquarters in Monterey Park, where she worked diligently until her retirement in 2008.
Veronica Wiggins, LVN and Army Sergeant Churchill Brown, and together they welcomed their daughter, Leatrice M. Brown, into the world in 1966. Veronica's love for her family was boundless, and her legacy lives on through her daughter, Leatrice, and her treasured grandchildren, Edward E.C. Johnson III and Elise V. Johnson.
A woman of deep faith, Ronnie was a lifelong member of the Christian Light Missionary Baptist Church and later joined the Prophetic Ministry Church. Her faith guided her, and she was known for her cheerful generosity, supporting numerous charities such as L.A. Mission, Easter Seals, and the Salvation Army.
Ronnie's joy for life was infectious. She loved to dance and continued to find joy in music even during her final weeks. An avid fan of soap operas and reality TV shows, she never missed an episode of her favorites, including "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful Love & Marriage Huntsville, Married to Medicine, Housewives of the Potomac and Housewives Atlanta." Known affectionately as the "shopping diva," Ronnie's zest for life was evident in her every endeavor.
Her kindness and selflessness were perhaps best exemplified in her commitment to family. After her sister's passing, Ronnie took on the guardianship of her four nieces, Martica, Tenee, Shirita, and Arnecia, embracing this great responsibility with grace and unwavering faith.
While her passing leaves a profound void, Ronnie's spirit and legacy of love endure in the hearts of all who knew her. The family will hold her legacy and continue to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ronnie's memory may make a donation to a charity of their choice.
