Veronica Jane Williams

October 6, 1947 — September 21, 2026

Veronica Jane Williams, a cherished daughter, sister, aunt and friend, was born on October 6, 1947, and passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, due to complications from diabetes. She was the beloved daughter of Wilson L. Nelson and Bertha "Casey" Nelson, and she is now reunited in eternal rest with her dear husband, Louis Williams, whom she married in a loving union in 1984. Veronica's journey began in the vibrant city of New Orleans, where she graduated from Xavier Preparatory High School before pursuing higher education at Southern University of New Orleans, proudly earning her degree in Sociology in 1971. Her career was marked by a deep commitment to serving others, beginning as a Case Worker for the City of New Orleans and later as a Child Welfare Specialist for the State of Louisiana. Her dedication to the welfare of children and families left an indelible mark on her community, and her compassion knew no bounds. Veronica's life was a testament to the strength of family and the joy of togetherness. She was a warm-hearted, gentle, and kind soul, always extending herself to family members and friends in need. Her home was a haven, filled with love and laughter, resonating with music and the aroma of delicious food. A true foodie at heart, she delighted in entertaining her loved ones, and her gift for interior design made her home a welcoming and beautiful sanctuary. A lifelong Catholic, Veronica's devotion to her faith was unwavering. She lived her life with grace and humility, embodying the teachings of her faith in every interaction. Her gentle spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including her sister, Wanda Nelson-Smith; her niece, Christina Nelson-Smith; her nephew, Rodney Smith Jr.; and the Williams family, Gina & Louis. Veronica's legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others. As we celebrate Veronica's life, we remember the warmth of her smile, the gentleness of her spirit, and the love she shared so freely. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and faith, reminding us all of the beauty in a life well-lived.
