September 14, 1935 — May 10, 2026
With heavy hearts but immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Vernon Russell Wilson, who departed this world on May 10, 2026, at the age of 90. Vernon passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Randolph, embraced by love and the serene memories of a life well spent.
Vernon was born on September 14, 1935, in the charming town of High Falls, NC, to proud parents Gurney and Pauline Wilson. He was a beacon of warmth and joy, known for his quick wit and infectious smile, always ready with a joke to brighten the day of those around him. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives, making everyone feel welcome and valued in his presence.
A proud graduate of High Falls High School in 1953, Vernon was an enthusiastic participant in the school's basketball and baseball teams. His passion for learning led him to High Point College, where he furthered his education and prepared for a future of success and service.
In 1956, Vernon married his beloved Billie Callicutt Wilson, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey of love and partnership that lasted 70 wonderful years. Together, they built not only a family but a thriving business, Wilson Realty and Construction, established in 1980. Vernon's work as a draftsman with Jack Croft and later as a builder earned him numerous awards for the quality and fine craftsmanship of the homes he lovingly constructed.
Vernon's commitment to his community was unwavering. As an active member of Asheboro Friends Meeting for over 60 years, he served in various roles, always dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and spiritual growth within the congregation.
Beyond his professional and community achievements, Vernon was an avid golfer, treasuring the tranquility of a beautifully landscaped yard and the peacefulness of his koi fish pond. These simple pleasures were a testament to his love of nature and the joy he found in life's everyday moments.
Vernon is survived by his devoted wife, Billie, and his cherished daughters, Joan Chartier (Ken) and Kim Wilson. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Carol Dunn, and many nieces and nephews who will forever hold him dear in their hearts. Though he had no grandchildren, his legacy of love and laughter lives on in the lives he touched.
Predeceased by his parents, Gurney and Pauline Wilson, Vernon's memory will continue to inspire those who knew him. His life will be celebrated in a service on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Asheboro Friends Meeting, located at 230 E. Kivett Street, Asheboro, NC.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring nurses and staff at Hospice of Randolph and to the many kind friends and neighbors for their unwavering support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Vernon's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
As we bid farewell to Vernon, we remember a life filled with love, laughter, and the enduring impact of a man who truly made the world a better place. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew him.
