Vernon Russell Wilson, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, at the age of 90, at the Hospice of Randolph. Born on September 14, 1935, in High Falls, North Carolina, Vernon lived a life rich in love, community, and service. He was the cherished son of Gurney and Pauline Wilson, who preceded him in death. Vernon’s journey began in the small community of High Falls, where he graduated from High Falls High School in 1953. A talented athlete, he excelled in both basketball and baseball, demonstrating the teamwork and dedication that would define his life. He continued his education at High Point College, nurturing a commitment to learning that he carried throughout his life. In 1980, alongside his beloved wife, Billie Callicutt Wilson, Vernon founded Wilson Realty and Construction. Together, they built not just homes, but legacies of quality and fine craftsmanship that stood as a testament to their shared vision and hard work. Vernon's dedication to his craft earned him accolades and respect in the community he so dearly loved. Vernon was an active and devoted member of the Asheboro Friends Meeting for over 60 years. He served in various roles, always with a spirit of humility and grace, bringing comfort and guidance to his fellow congregants. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing a foundation of strength and kindness that touched all who knew him. A man of many passions, Vernon was an avid golfer, finding joy and camaraderie on the greens. He also took great pride in his beautifully landscaped yard and his serene koi fish pond, which brought him peace and a connection to the natural world. Vernon leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Billie, whose partnership was a source of strength and joy. He is also survived by his daughters, Joan Chartier (Ken) and Kim Wilson, his sister Carol Dunn, and many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward. Though he did not have grandchildren, Vernon’s nurturing spirit and wisdom touched countless young lives, inspiring future generations. A service to celebrate Vernon’s life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Asheboro Friends Meeting, located at 230 E. Kivett Street, Asheboro, NC. His family invites all who knew him to join in honoring a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Vernon’s lifelong commitment to helping others. They also extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses at Hospice of Randolph, who provided care and comfort in his final days.
