Vernon “Dale” Norman

February 15, 1955 — July 1, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Vernon "Dale" Norman, who left us on July 1, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on February 15, 1955, in Houston, Texas, Dale was the cherished son of Steve and Thelma, who have preceded him in death, along with his siblings Carlos, John, Beverly, and Wayne. Dale's journey, marked by laughter and love, remains a testament to a life well-lived. Dale’s life was one of vibrancy and joy, much of which was shared with the vibrant streets of Houston's 5th Ward. Known to many as the man who rode his bike with a honk that heralded his arrival long before he was seen, Dale's presence was a constant, comforting rhythm in the neighborhood he loved so dearly. His raspy voice, filled with humor and quick wit, was a beacon of warmth to all who had the pleasure to know him. He leaves behind his beloved daughters, Ramika and Vernisha, who were the pride of his life. Through Ramika, Dale's legacy continues with his grandson Davon, and further extends to his great-grandchildren, Ceven and Echo, who will carry forward the stories and spirit of their great-grandfather. Dale's laughter was infectious, and his stories, often accentuated by his unique wit, brought light to even the darkest days. His humor was a gift he shared freely, and his ability to find joy in the simplest of moments was a lesson to all who knew him. Whether it was through a shared joke or a heartfelt conversation, Dale touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of love and laughter that will be remembered for generations. The family invites those who knew Dale to celebrate his life and the joy he brought into the world. In lieu of flowers, they suggest memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Dale's generous spirit and his lifelong commitment to community. As we say goodbye to Dale, we hold on to the laughter and love he gave so freely. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the stories we share and the memories we cherish. Rest in peace, Dale—you will forever be in our hearts.

Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.

I’M FREE

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and peace to thee, God wanted me now; He set me free.
