It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Vera Jean Pence, who departed this world on April 8, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on February 27, 1953, in Winchester, Virginia, Jean graced this earth with a life characterized by selflessness, warmth, and an unwavering dedication to those around her.
Jean was the cherished daughter of the late Joyce Pence and the beloved sister of Marlene "Boobsie" Ranucci, with whom she shared a bond reminiscent of the iconic duo Lucy and Ethel from the "I Love Lucy Show." Although she never married, Jean found her family within the loving embrace of the Ranucci family, becoming an integral part of their lives since the late 1980s. Her legacy is carried forward by her god-daughter Heather Ranucci of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Heather's four children, along with numerous other extended family members and friends who were touched by Jean's kindness and generosity.
Jean's life was a testament to the power of education and service. After earning her bachelor's degree in education, she dedicated herself to teaching special education in Roanoke, Virginia, until 1987. Her passion for helping others extended into her career as a hotel manager near Carowinds, where she met her best friend "Boobsie," forming a friendship that would last a lifetime.
A devout member of the Faith Assembly of God in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jean's faith was an integral part of her identity. She often expressed her devotion to God and spoke joyfully of awaiting the rapture of the Lord. Her commitment to her faith and her church community was unwavering, and she found immense joy in serving others through her spiritual family.
Jean's life was a living testament to her heart for others. Known for her generosity and the ability to put others' needs before her own, she was a beacon of compassion and care. Her capacity to uplift those around her and offer support in times of need will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Jean's remarkable life with a graveside service on April 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM. The service will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery, located at 4290 Old York Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732. It is here that we will honor Jean's memory, sharing stories of her kindness, laughter, and the indelible mark she left on our hearts.
As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we find solace in knowing that Jean's spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her legacy of love and compassion will endure, reminding us all of the beauty and impact of a life lived in service to others.
