Vera Ellen (Ellie) Barndt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Ellen (Ellie) Barndt, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished sister, and adored grandmother. Ellie left this world on August 25, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with illness. Born on October 28, 1948, in Heber Springs, Arkansas, Ellie was the beloved daughter of Murl and Daphne Ramsey, who predeceased her. Ellie graduated from Elton Senior High School in Michigan City, Indiana, in 1966. She later moved to Alpine, Texas, and attended Sul Ross State University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 1986, followed by a Master's degree in 1989. She spent many years working as a middle school science teacher in Uvalde and Arlington, Texas. In 1992, Ellie married the love of her life, Richard (RJ) Barndt, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and music. Their union was blessed with a beautiful family: Melissa Schuenemann and her husband Craig of Del Norte, Colorado; Sarah Green of Gainesville, Texas; Kendra Blakely and her husband Jon of Lexington, Kentucky; Jay Barndt of Katy, Texas; and Eric Barndt and his wife Teresa of Layton, Utah. Ellie took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to 18 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 3 great-grandchildren, finding her greatest joy in spending time with them. Ellie’s kindness and warm smile uplifted everyone she encountered. Although shy, she had a soft and enchanting voice when she graced others with a song. She was passionate about the geology and biology of the Big Bend region, and the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute where she once worked. She and RJ also shared a deep devotion to our savior, Jesus Christ, and their faith was a cornerstone of their lives. Together, they embraced the beauty of the world, spending countless days on cruise ships, exploring new places, and enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors, especially the serenade of birdsongs. Ellie is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, RJ; her loving sister, Ruth Ramsey of Springfield, Illinois; and her five children and their families. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital for their exceptional medical expertise, compassionate care, and unwavering support during a very difficult time. A private funeral service will be held to honor Ellie's memory.
