Velma Morris

May 10, 1951 — April 26, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Velma Morris, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, who left us unexpectedly on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the comforting presence of her family. Born on May 10, 1951, in the gentle surroundings of Florence, South Carolina, Velma graced this world with an enduring spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. Velma was the cherished daughter of the late Leon and Betty Hughes, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and love. She shared a deep bond with her brother, Eddie Hughes, who survives her and carries forward the family legacy they cherished together. In 1975, Velma married the love of her life, Claude Morris. Their union, which spanned nearly half a century, was one of unwavering love and mutual respect. Together, they built a life that was rich in love and laughter until Claude's passing on Father's Day in 2025, a loss she felt deeply. A devoted mother, Velma is survived by her two sons, Wesley Morris, married to Timberlyn Wojdyla-Morris, and Bradley Morris, married to Crystal Morris. Velma found immense joy in her children, nurturing their dreams and celebrating their achievements with the pride only a mother could possess. Velma's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love for both fishing and crafting. These hobbies brought her solace and joy, even as her ability to engage in them waned in recent years. Her creativity and patience were evident in the intricate crafts she created and the calm she found on the water, fishing with loved ones. Though her passing was unexpected, Velma's life was a testament to living fully and loving deeply. Her gentle spirit and nurturing soul left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind. In keeping with Velma's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her life on May 23, 2026. As we gather to celebrate her journey, we find solace in the knowledge that she is reunited with her beloved Claude and resting in eternal peace. Velma Morris will be remembered not only for the love she shared but also for the quiet strength and grace with which she lived her life. Her legacy is one of love, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
