It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Velma "Lorane" Crook, who departed this world peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on February 28, 1939, in the quaint town of Boles, Arkansas, Lorane graced the lives of many with her vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Lorane was the cherished daughter of Oliver Sidney and Laura Mandy Draper, who preceded her in death, along with her eight siblings and her beloved sons, Billy Dean Westerman and Kenny Westerman. Despite these profound losses, Lorane’s fortitude and compassion remained steadfast, providing a beacon of strength for her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted son, Michael "Shane" Westerman, her loving grandchildren Shannon Westerman, Eric (Heather) Westerman, Kendyl (Geno) Lopez, and Lacy Westerman, and her five adoring great-grandchildren. Lorane's legacy of love and kindness also extends to a host of extended family and friends who cherished her deeply. Lorane spent the majority of her career serving her community at Dillards in Pine Bluff and later in various customer-facing roles in Dumas, Arkansas. Her warm smile and genuine interest in people ensured she never met a stranger. A longtime and devoted member of the First Assembly of God Church in Dumas, Arkansas, Lorane's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her dedication to her church and family was unparalleled, as she tirelessly served and loved those around her. In her later years, Lorane enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as shopping, getting her nails done, and relishing ice cream dates with her granddaughter, Kendyl. Her time at Salem Place Nursing Home was spent building new friendships, sharing laughter, and offering her quick wit and sweet smile to all who crossed her path. Lorane will be remembered for her genuine love, her drive to help others, and the warmth she exuded. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and faith, leaving an indelible mark on every heart she touched. A service to celebrate the life of Velma "Lorane" Crook will be held on June 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Griffin Funeral Home, located at 109 Brasfield St, Dumas, AR 71639. Those who had the privilege of knowing Lorane are invited to join in honoring her memory. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Salem Place Nursing Home for their loving care and for treating Lorane like family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Dumas, Arkansas, in Lorane's memory.
