It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Veletia Monique Childs, who departed this life on April 19, 2026, at her home, cradled in the love of her family. Veletia’s journey began on December 6, 1969, in the vibrant city of Newark, New Jersey, where she was born to Earnestine Childs and James Anderson. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering strength, qualities that she exhibited until her final days.
Veletia was a beacon of light and strength, known for her infectious smile and compassionate nature. A devoted mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever be cherished by all who knew her. Her life was a tapestry woven with rich experiences, profound connections, and endless devotion to her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Wesley Childs, whose memory she cherished deeply, her father, James Anderson, her grandmother, Willie Mae Crawford, her aunts, Deloris Dawson and Vernice Crawford, her uncle, William B. Dudley, and her cousin, Brett Lynn Dawson. Each left an indelible mark on Veletia’s life, guiding her with their love and wisdom.
Veletia’s memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family: her mother, Earnestine, whose strength was her guiding light, her cherished children, Naja and Anthony, and daughter-in-law Jasmine, who were the center of her world. She was a doting grandmother to Ayaad, Madison, Peyton, and Paige, who brought immense joy to her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Cassandra and Alecia, her niece, Kaila, and nephews, Tyler and Khairi. Her extended family, including Linda, Lauren, Felicia, and Tariq, will carry her memory in their hearts.
Veletia was a proud graduate of Valisburg High School’s Class of 1987. Her thirst for knowledge and dedication to her professional development led her to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Phoenix in 2021, an achievement that exemplified her commitment to personal growth and excellence.
Her life was a tapestry of achievements, each thread representing her dedication to her family, her work, and her community. Veletia faced her long battle with ovarian cancer with grace and courage, a true testament to her indomitable spirit.
A celebration of Veletia’s life will be held on May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount Gerizim Christian Center. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor her memory and celebrate the extraordinary life she led.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Veletia, supporting causes that were dear to her heart.
