Vanessa Walker Green, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at her home in Williamsburg, Virginia . Born on March 15, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland Vanessa was the cherished daughter of the late Malvin and Veronica Walker. Her departure leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew and loved her. Vanessa was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. Her early years were spent in the warm embrace of her family, alongside her siblings William Walker, Richard Smith, and Dortha Walker, who have all predeceased her. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1945, marking the start of a life dedicated to hard work and service. For over 20 years, Vanessa worked as a cleaning service maid, where her dedication and attention to detail were unmatched. She then transitioned to the Maryland Postal Services, where she devoted an impressive 50 years before retiring in 2015. Her career was characterized by a steadfast commitment and a work ethic that inspired those around her. Vanessa's spiritual journey was equally significant. She was an active member of White Stone Baptist Church under Bishop Warren Brown, and later, New Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she served under Rev. Anthony Michael Chandler and Bishop Lisa Weah. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and providing solace in times of need. Those who were fortunate to know Vanessa will remember her for her quick wit and warm smile. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome, often lightening the mood with a well-timed joke. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on many lives, and her absence will be keenly felt. In 1973, on her birthday, Vanessa married the love of her life, Thomas Green, after a 15-year courtship. Their union was blessed with five children: Tracey, Daniel, Wanda, Eric, and Thomas Jr. Together, they created a family filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Thomas, her devoted husband of 53 years, awaits the day they will be reunited in the arms of the Lord. Vanessa leaves behind a legacy of love through her 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her spirit and values. Her sister-in-law Shirley Smith, along with a host of family and friends, will cherish her memory and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable woman. A service to honor Vanessa's life will be held on July 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 727 Scotland St, Williamsburg, VA 23185. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice, in remembrance of Vanessa's generous spirit.
