Vanessa Grant Dobson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on July 27, 2026, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Born on April 25, 1961, in Savannah, Georgia, Vanessa lived a life full of love, joy, and dedication to those she held dear.
Vanessa was the cherished daughter of the late John Grant and Adlene Stevens. She was predeceased by both her parents, who undoubtedly greeted her with open arms as she entered eternal rest. Vanessa's legacy of love and kindness continues through her devoted husband, Joseph Dobson, and her three children, Johnathan (Peia) Abdullah, Ayesha Peterson, and Jabari Dobson, who were the light of her life. Her heart overflowed with pride and affection for her eight grandchildren: Johnathan Abdullah Jr., Kimora Walker, Jayden Abdullah, Heaven Peterson, Christian Peterson, Jonah Abdullah, Alana Alexander, and Jordan Abdullah.
Vanessa's journey of learning and growth included her graduation from Richard Arnold High School and her pursuit of higher education. She earned an Associate of Science degree from Saint Leo University, which fueled her passion for knowledge and development. Her career spanned over a decade in the hospitality and newspaper management industries, where her commitment and vivacious spirit left an indelible mark on colleagues and clients alike.
A woman of deep faith, Vanessa was an active member of Greater Friendship Baptist Church, where she found solace, community, and purpose. Her jovial spirit and love for engaging with others endeared her to all who crossed her path. Vanessa's warmth and genuine interest in people made her a beloved figure in her community and beyond.
Above all, Vanessa was a devoted family woman. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unparalleled, and she found immense joy in their company. Her family gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of her generous heart.
A celebration of Vanessa's life will take place on August 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Paul CME Church. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to join in remembering and honoring her remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Vanessa's memory to a charitable organization of your choice, reflecting her spirit of giving and compassion.
