Van Jennings

April 20, 1945 — May 22, 2026

Van Jennings, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a friend to many, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 81. His journey began on April 20, 1945, in the scenic town of Sevierville, Tennessee, where he was born to Dewey and Mary Grace (Ollis) Jennings. Van's life was a testament to the power of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for family and friends. Van's formative years in Sevierville were marked by the warmth and guidance of his late parents, Dewey and Mary Grace, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion. He was the brother to a large and loving family, predeceased by his siblings Margaret Welch, Thelma Jennings, and Hobert Jennings, and stepson Kip Meece. He is survived by his brothers Hubert and Dewey Lee Jennings, and sisters Linda Jennings and Brenda Rogers, who will always remember his infectious humor and caring nature. Van dedicated his life to serving his country and his community. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, where his bravery and camaraderie earned him the respect of his fellow soldiers. His service to others continued throughout his career in factory work across various locations, culminating in his retirement from Brazeway in Hopkinsville. Additionally, Van's compassion and dedication to care were evident in his work as a nurse aide, where he touched countless lives with his gentle spirit. Van was a man of faith, a proud member of the Baptist community, where his strong beliefs and generous heart were a guiding light for those around him. His hobbies included fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and joy, often shared with family and friends by the water's edge. Van's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with laughter, love, and a profound sense of community. Known as a jokester, he never met a stranger, and his ability to connect with others was truly remarkable. He was a people person through and through, always ready with a smile, a helping hand, or a kind word. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved them deeply and unconditionally. Van leaves behind his beloved wife, Phyllis Dawn Jennings, who was his partner and confidante throughout their many years together. His legacy lives on through his children: Darrin, Amanda, and Felicia, as well as his stepdaughter Elizabeth, who all carry forward his spirit of love and laughter. His nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren were the light of his life, each a testament to the enduring impact of his love and guidance. As we celebrate Van's life, we remember a man who lived fully and loved fiercely. His legacy is not only in the family he cherished but in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will forever be a guiding star in our hearts. A service to honor and celebrate Van's life will be held at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Van's memory, continuing his legacy of helping others. Rest in peace, dear Van. Your laughter, love, and light will forever be with us.
