It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Valerie Ann Tucker, who departed this world on June 22, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with illness. Valerie was born on September 11, 1947, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to her loving parents, William and Georgiana Tucker (Washington), who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her cherished cousins, Irving Lamont Cassett and Roger Cassett.
Valerie leaves behind a cherished legacy, survived by her cousins and a circle of devoted friends who were like family to her. Her journey through life was one marked by grace, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
Valerie's formative years were spent in Plainfield, where she graduated from Plainfield High School in 1966. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for professional growth led her to Cortez Peter Business College, where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Secretarial Sciences. Her education laid the foundation for a fulfilling and impactful career.
In pursuit of her dreams, Valerie relocated to Maryland, where she began her professional journey with the National Association of Letter Carriers. However, her heart guided her back to her roots in Plainfield in 1970, where she embarked on a remarkable 27-year career with the Plainfield Board of Education. She dedicated herself to the Hubbard School Guidance Department and later, the Department of Special Services, until her retirement in 1997. Valerie's commitment to education and the well-being of students left an indelible mark on the community she served with pride.
A woman of deep faith, Valerie was a devoted member of the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church from an early age. Her dedication to her church community remained steadfast until her health no longer allowed her to serve. After retirement, she found joy and companionship at the Piscataway Senior Center, where her warmth and generosity continued to shine.
Valerie's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, family, and friendship. She was known for her culinary talents, hosting gatherings where her home-cooked meals brought people together in laughter and camaraderie. Shopping was another of Valerie's passions, and her keen eye for tasteful and conservative fashion was a reflection of her elegance and grace. Her home was always immaculate, a testament to her love for creating a welcoming environment for all who entered.
In Valerie's presence, one felt truly at home. Her gift for hospitality, genuine conversation, and infectious laughter transformed every visit into a cherished memory. Her spirit of generosity and kindness touched countless lives, leaving an enduring legacy of love.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to her cousin, Kendra Scott Bass, and the staff at Roosevelt Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Old Bridge, NJ, for their compassionate care during Valerie's time there. Special thanks are also extended to her devoted friend, Patricia Foster, and the staff at Somerset Woods Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Somerset, NJ, for their loving support during Valerie's final weeks.
May Valerie Ann Tucker be remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all those she touched. As we say our final goodbyes, we hold her memory close and say, "Rest in Peace and Joy."
