Valarie Kay Wiggins, affectionately known as Val, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family and friends. Born on July 7, 1957, in Pensacola, Florida, Val was the cherished daughter of Lillian Chase, Kenneth Chase, and Alphonso Evans, Sr. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the profound impact of a nurturing spirit.
Val's journey began in Pensacola, where she graduated from Pensacola High School in 1975. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Grambling State University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1979. Her career was marked by dedication and a deep commitment to bettering the lives of those around her, though her professional path is perhaps best remembered through the relationships she cultivated along the way.
A woman of deep faith, Val began her spiritual journey at St. John the Baptist Church in Pensacola, where she was a devoted member of the choir. Her melodious voice and unwavering faith found a new home at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a cherished member of the Voices of Victory choir.
Val's life was a celebration of family. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she took immense joy in doting on her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Known for her elaborate parties and events, Val had a unique talent for bringing people together, her gatherings filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. She had a passion for decorating, particularly during the holidays, turning her home into a place of warmth and welcome.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Terrence Lewis and Wendell Darnell Wiggins, and her adoring grandchildren, Trelin Lewis, Jordan Lewis, Michaela Lewis, and Lyrik Lewis. Val's legacy lives on in her siblings, Genordra Robinson, Kennita Jackson, Roshunda Asberry, Larry Chase (MaryAnn), Tommy Chase, and Russell Chase, and in the hearts of her numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Her life was enriched by the love of a vast extended family and a multitude of friends who cherished her dearly.
Val was predeceased by her brother, Alphonso Evans, Jr., her sister, Anita Evans, and her daughter, Kendra Wiggins. Though their loss weighed heavy, Val's spirit remained unyielding, her love for those she held dear never fading.
A service celebrating Val's remarkable life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Victory Missionary Baptist Church, located at 500 West Monroe Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89106. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a life well-lived.
