Valarie Jean Stephenson

Valarie Jean Stephenson, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 14, 2026, at the age of 63, after a courageous battle with dementia. She was born on November 23, 1962, in Emporia, Kansas, to Martha A Hoskins and Duane M King. Valarie’s life was a testament to the strength she carried within her. She was predeceased by her parents, Martha A Hoskins and Duane M King, her stepfather, Norse O Hoskins, and her stepdaughter, Heather Hees. Her legacy, however, continues through the lives she touched and the family she adored. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Stephenson, whom she married on December 23, 2017, in Eldon, Missouri. Valarie is also survived by her cherished daughter, Rachel King, of Columbia, Missouri, and her stepchildren: Miguel Stephenson of Columbia, Missouri; Amber Pruitt, Carol Pruitt, and Kenny C Stephenson, all of Jefferson City, Missouri. Her siblings, David (Glenda) King of Columbia, Missouri; Deanna (Jeff) Ross of Sunbright, Tennessee; Connie Howard (Richard) of Jefferson City, Missouri; and John King (Brenda) of Jefferson City, Missouri. A dedicated housekeeper in the hotel industry for many years. Valarie loved watching WWE wrestling, engaging in games of cards and board games, and bingo. Family gatherings at the lake house of her mother and stepfather, Norse, were among her treasured memories. A private family dinner will be held to celebrate Valarie’s life, honoring the deep connections she fostered with her family. Her memory will forever be a guiding light for those who knew and loved her.
