Val Thomas Owens

Val Thomas Owens, born on January 23, 2001, in Houston, Texas, graced the world with his presence, filling it with warmth, laughter, and love. He was the beloved son of Barry E. Owens and Monica L. Owens, who now find solace in the cherished memories of their extraordinary son. Val's life was deeply rooted in his family. He is survived by his devoted parents, Barry and Monica, and his sister, Khayla Dolan, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. His loving grandparents, Lee Ashford and Sammie Ashford, were a source of great wisdom and joy in his life. Although his grandparents Ernest and Juanita Owens, along with Val T. Thomas, Sr. and Lee G. Thomas, preceded him in passing, their legacy continues through Val's life and contributions. Val's aunts and uncles, including Ernest Owens, Willard Owens, John Owens, Jerry Guyton, Timothy Thomas, Marshall Guyton, Michael Guyton, Carla Owens, Wyatt C. Singleton, James A. Singleton, Annie Mae Riley, Melvin Calhoun, Jewel Singleton, Julia Watson, and James & Barbara Sims, along with a host of cousins and friends, stood as pillars of support and love throughout his life. A bright and ambitious young man, Val graduated from Cypress Lakes High School in 2019 and pursued his passion for the open road as a CDL driver. He worked with dedication and pride for USAL, earning his hazmat certification to further his career. Val's professional journey was marked by his strong work ethic and his commitment to excellence. Val was a man of many passions. He loved fast cars and was known for his impeccable sense of style, particularly his vast collection of sneakers. An enthusiast of fitness, Val enjoyed exercising, playing basketball, swimming, and spending time in the gym. His love for cooking and video games was only rivaled by the joy he found in being surrounded by his family and friends. Val's vibrant personality was characterized by his quick wit, warm smile, and a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, touching the lives of many. Val was a member of Hope City Church in Houston, Texas, where he found community and spiritual growth. His faith was an important part of his life, guiding him with strength and compassion. A service to honor and celebrate Val's life will be held on September 5, 2026, at 10:01 a.m. at the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, located at 0123 Trulley Street, Houston, Texas 77004. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to KSBJ Radio - Keeping Him Close By, an organization close to Val's heart. The Owens family extends their deepest gratitude to Pastor Punch of Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Reverend John Owens of Dallas, Pastor McHuey & Claudia Davis of Houston, and Frazier Mitchell Funeral Home for their unwavering support and assistance during this difficult time.
