Tyrone "Sly" Davis, a cherished son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a beacon of musical talent, peacefully passed away on February 24, 2026, in Biloxi, Mississippi, just shy of his 72nd birthday. Born on March 1, 1954, in Laurel, Mississippi, Tyrone graced this world as a beloved son to Ida Thames. From the very beginning, Tyrone's life was imbued with the rhythm and soul of Mississippi. A proud graduate of R.H. Watkins High School, Class of 1972, Tyrone's journey was marked by an unwavering passion for music. In 1975, he began his career as a DJ in his hometown of Laurel, where his charisma and innate talent behind the turntables quickly won the hearts of many. His love for music and his relentless drive for success opened doors to new horizons, leading him and his family to relocate, where he carved out an elevated career in the music industry. Though Tyrone retired from DJing at the age of 45, his love for music never dimmed. He continued to share this passion by working at a radio station in Biloxi, where his voice became a beloved staple on the airwaves. Tyrone's presence and contributions left a lasting imprint on the community he served so faithfully. A man of deep faith, Tyrone was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church, having joined at a very young age. He carried these values throughout his life, providing a foundation of strength and comfort to those around him. Tyrone was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert Wash and TL Harris, as well as his uncle, Joe Davis. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his loving mother, Ida Thames, and his sister, Paula Thames. His spirit lives on in his children: Sheree Davis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Valentines Davis-Jasper of Laurel, Mississippi. Tyrone's vibrant legacy is further carried by his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to First Allen A.M.E. Church and Pastor Trayce Monagan for their spiritual support and guidance during this time of remembrance. In keeping with Tyrone's wishes, a private funeral service will be held on March 2, 2026. In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the joyous life Tyrone led and the love he freely gave to all who knew him. We thank God for the years we were blessed to share with him and the enduring impact of his life and faith. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his music forever play on in the hearts of those he touched.
