It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Towana Doherty, who left this world peacefully on May 16, 2026, at the age of 79. Towana was born on December 10, 1946, in Lubbock, Texas, a place she always held dear , She passed surrounded by the love of her family. Towana was the cherished daughter of Pauline Sutton, who instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and resilience. Her life was a testament to these qualities, as she faced challenges with grace and unwavering strength. The sudden loss of her children, Tracy and Tamatha Bontke, weighed heavily on her heart, yet she continued to embrace life with a hopeful spirit. A beautiful soul, Towana found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly in coloring portraits of beautiful women, an activity that reflected her appreciation for beauty and creativity. Towana is survived by her loving family, who were the very essence of her life. Her daughters, Tina Rodriguez and Teffannie Bailey, along with their devoted spouses, Eddie Rodriguez and Ronald Bailey, were her pillars of strength. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Thomas Melendez, Trisha Ferrell, Tezerae Herbert, and Edward Herbert, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her great-grandchildren, Timothy Melendez, Theodore Herbert, and Sevyn Herbert, were her pride and joy, bringing her endless happiness and hope for the future. Towana's warmth and kindness touched many lives, and her memory will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but the love she shared will continue to inspire and guide those she leaves behind. A viewing will be held on May 20th at Doeppenschmidt Canyon Lake from 4-6pm the a celebrate of life from 6:30-8:30 May 22, 2026, at 9:31 AM at the Lubbock Cemetery, located at 2011 E 31st Lubbock, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor a life well-lived and to say their final goodbyes to a remarkable woman who gave so much to those around her. Though we mourn the loss of Towana, we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved children, Tracy and Tamatha, and that her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
