Torrance P. Richter

August 9, 1974 — March 23, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Torrance P. Richter, beloved father, brother, son, and friend, who left this world on March 23, 2026, at the age of 51. Torrance passed away peacefully in the comforting presence of his loving family at Nebraska Medical Center, following a brief battle with a bacterial infection. His departure leaves a void that will be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Born on August 9, 1974, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, Torrance was the cherished son of Elise (Lundeby) & Gary Norenberg and Dwayne & Avis Richter. Growing up in a family that cherished togetherness, Torrance was surrounded by love and laughter, values he would carry throughout his life. He was predeceased by his stillborn son, Jonathan D. Richter, and his grandparents, Iver & Shirley Lundeby and Nick & Lena Richter. Torrance now joins them, along with numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins who went before him, in a place of eternal peace. Torrance’s life was a tapestry of vibrant experiences and connections, woven with threads of resilience, humor, and love. He graduated from Millard South High School in 1994 before serving his country with pride in the United States Army from 1995 to 1998. Torrance was stationed in Germany, a time he looked back on with fondness and pride. Following his military service, Torrance pursued his education with determination, earning a business degree and a master’s degree from Metro Community College and Bellevue University Lozier Professional Center in the Omaha Metro. Professionally, Torrance was known for his dedication and skill, particularly in his role as a Workforce Management Analyst at PayFlex. His colleagues admired him not only for his work ethic but also for the joy and laughter he brought into the workplace. Before finding his niche, Torrance gained experience in the fast-food industry, working at Pizza Hut, KFC, and McDonald's, and in management at Hy-Vee. A devoted father, Torrance's world revolved around his son, Benjamin, who was born in 2003. Despite the challenges of single parenthood following his divorce from Briana Dembroski, Torrance embraced his role with love and commitment. His home was also shared by his beloved cat, Fathom, who was a faithful companion through life’s ups and downs. Torrance's passions were as diverse as they were deep. An avid Foodie, he delighted in discovering new restaurants and recipes, often sharing his culinary creations with friends and family. His love for video games, movies, and all things dragons was infectious, as was his ability to make others laugh with his playful jokes and larger-than-life personality. He is survived by his son, Benjamin Richter, his parents, Elise & Gary Norenberg and Dwayne & Avis Richter, his sister, Melissa Richter, half-sisters Tracy Olson and Trisha Miller, half-brother Grant Norenberg, stepbrother Jerome Gussiaas, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Torrance’s life was a testament to the power of laughter, love, and resilience. In honoring Torrance’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Nebraska Medical Center for the exceptional care and support provided during Torrance’s final days. In the hearts of those he leaves behind, Torrance P. Richter will forever be remembered for his funny sense of humor, his caring nature, and his big heart. He was a man who embraced life fully and left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. May his memory be a blessing and his spirit live on in the laughter and love he so generously shared.
