It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Albert Smith, who departed this world on July 12, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on May 4, 1958, in Rockingham, North Carolina, Tony was a beloved son, brother, fiancé, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of many around him with his warmth and laughter. Tony was the cherished son of Floyd (Al) Smith Jr. and Doris Allen Smith, who reside in Hilliard, Florida. Tony is survived by his devoted fiancé, Karen Sharpe Tauscher, who was his partner in both life and love. Tony was the beloved brother of Jerry Smith ( Debbie). He was also a cherished sibling to his sister with whom they shared a special bond of love, respect and continued cherish memories, Teresa Smith Kidd. His nieces, Sonya, Connor, and Ali Morgan, held a special place in his heart, and he adored his great-nieces, Maggie and Amelia. His family extended beyond immediate relations to include his aunts, Jennifer Allen Hurlocker (Howard) and Betty Smith Melton, and many special cousins who were an integral part of his life. Tony's educational journey began at Wolfson and Windsor Forest High School, where he laid the foundation for a successful career. He later attended the SCL/CSX Electrician Apprentice School, which marked the beginning of his professional journey. Tony worked diligently as an electrician for the SCL/CSX Railroad in Hamlet, NC, where he was respected for his expertise and commitment to his craft. A man of varied interests, Tony was an active member of the Georgia Bulldogs Fan Club and the Shag Club in Myrtle Beach, SC His enthusiasm for the Georgia Bulldogs was infectious, and he took great pride in supporting his team. Tony was also known for his love of gardening, a hobby in which he excelled, nurturing plants with the same care and attention he gave to his relationships. Tony's personal qualities were as vibrant as his spirit. He was renowned for his quick humor and charm, effortlessly bringing joy and laughter to all around him. His dancing skills made him a favorite at any gathering, and his culinary talents ensured that friends and family were always treated to delicious meals. Above all, Tony was a devoted uncle and friend, whose love of laughter and life was evident in everything he did. As we remember Tony, we celebrate a life well-lived and the indelible mark he left on those fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tony's memory to a charity of your choice, honoring his spirit of generosity and love. Tony's light may have dimmed, but its warmth and brilliance continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
