Tommy Kirkpatrick
August 14, 1950 — May 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Tommy Kirkpatrick, who departed this world peacefully on May 29, 2026. Born on August 14, 1950, in the vibrant city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tommy was the cherished son of Joan and Tommie Kirkpatrick Sr., who instilled in him the values of hard work, compassion, and kindness that defined his life.
Tommy's journey through life was marked by a dedication to learning and a passion for community. He attended Franklin Junior High School before graduating from Polytechnic High School in 1967. His pursuit of higher education led him to college, where he became a proud member of the Kappa fraternity. This brotherhood, with its emphasis on leadership and camaraderie, provided him with lifelong friendships and a foundation of support that he treasured deeply.
A man of many talents, Tommy was known for his exceptional ability to tackle any task with skill and determination. As a true jack of all trades, he approached each challenge with a resourceful spirit and a strong work ethic, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. For the last 25 years of his professional journey, Tommy dedicated himself to the Long Beach Convention Center, where he was a respected and valued employee. His commitment, reliability, and willingness to assist others built lasting relationships and earned him the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Tommy's life was also steeped in faith. Having accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior early on, he attended White Rose and New Hope Baptist Church. His deep knowledge and understanding of God's Word were evident in the way he lived his life, providing guidance, strength, and comfort to those around him. Tommy's faith was a cornerstone, shaping his values and serving as a beacon of encouragement for his family, friends, and community.
Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife, Trina McGee, and his former wife and dear friend, Shirley Ann Stamp. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Sheila Kirkpatrick, and his brother, Jason Cooper. Tommy's spirit lives on in his children: daughters Dwana, Shirlenya, Tomeka, and Abreiana, and sons James and Maurice, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. He also leaves behind a host of beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
A service celebrating Tommy's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Long Beach Colonial Mortuary, located at 638 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the comforting messages, prayers, flowers, tributes, and acts of kindness shown during this time of loss. Your love and support have brought us immense comfort and strength. Whatever you did to console our hearts, we thank you sincerely for every thoughtful gesture, no matter how big or small.
God bless you all,
The family of Tommy Kirkpatrick Jr.
